Embracing Language Learning in November
November brings a cozy atmosphere, perfect for learning languages.
With shorter days and longer nights, it’s a great time to dive into new languages by reading, watching shows, or using language apps.
However, November also comes with challenges. At least for me.
Balancing family duties, work, and other responsibilities can make it hard to keep up with language goals.
For example, I might be too tired to read my French book at night, or I might miss some daily lessons because of a busy schedule. English might be the easiest language to practice since I use it daily, while Spanish might feel less clear.
To help me - and you - stay motivated and keep learning, here are six practical tips I usually follow:
1. Set Small Goals.
Instead of long study sessions, try short, manageable practice times.
Even five or ten minutes can help.
2. Incorporate Language into Daily Life.
Use the language during everyday tasks. Listen to podcasts or music while commuting, label items at home with vocabulary words or talk to yourself while taking care of your tasks.
3. Mix Different Learning Methods.
Combine listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
For example, listen to an audiobook while using shadowing technique at the same time or read a chapter of your book out loud.
4. Be Kind to Yourself.
This is the tricky one; at least for me.
Remember that it’s okay if some days are harder.
Celebrate small achievements; anyway.
5. Stay Motivated.
Remind yourself why you’re learning the language, whether for travel, work, or personal growth.
6. Be Flexible.
t’s okay to adjust your plan if needed.
If you miss a day, just pick up again the next day.
By following these tips, you can keep your language learning enjoyable and sustainable, even when life gets busy.
What’s harder for you—finding time to study, or finding the motivation to keep going?
Tell me in the comments and let's help each other learning languages.
