My End-of-Year Language Goals: Portuguese, English, French, Spanish & Journaling
For me, it’s always easy to make big, ambitious plans, but the truth is that what really works are the small daily habits.
So this time I want to keep things simple, clear, and realistic.
Portuguese is my main focus right now.
I’ve started learning it this year and I want to continue with Busuu for grammar and structure, while also listening every day to something short like a podcast, a YouTube video, or even a song.
My goal is to reach at least A2 level by the end of the year, maybe even more if I stay consistent. I don’t need to be perfect, I just want to feel that I can understand more and say simple things.
For English, French, and Spanish, my plan is different.
I already use them in my daily life, so my goal is to maintain them and keep growing slowly. I want to read one book per month, but each month in a different language, so that by the end of the year I’ll have read in all three.
I’ll also continue listening every day—sometimes news, sometimes podcasts, sometimes TV or radio.
It doesn’t really matter what I choose.
The important part is that it becomes a habit.
Another thing I want to try is journaling.
I already do it in English, but I want to make it more interesting by changing the language every month.
In October I’ll journal in French, in November in Spanish, and in December in English.
At the same time, I’ll read my monthly book in a different language, so I don’t get tired of using only one.
I know staying consistent with journaling is not easy for me, but if I do it little by little, I think it will help me a lot.
The truth is that I’ve learned it’s okay to keep things small. Ten minutes a day doesn’t feel like much, but in the long run, it makes a big difference. I prefer this instead of overwhelming myself with big plans that I can’t follow.
Small habits are easier, lighter, and they actually work.
So these are my end-of-year goals.
I hope they inspire you to set your own small habits and to enjoy the process.
Step by step, we can go very far.
