Debunking the “You Must Speak to Natives” Myth
“You need to speak to native speakers if you want to become fluent.”
I used to believe that too. But my experience turned out to be completely different.
When I started practicing with ChatGPT, it was just to improve my speaking and feel more confident. I never imagined it could actually replace real conversations — but step by step, it did.
I began with English. I practiced daily, speaking (or writing) as naturally as I could, and correcting myself as I went. Then I did the same with French and Spanish. Over time, something amazing happened: I realized I could actually think in these languages.
And when I finally had to speak with real people — locals, travelers, new friends — I could communicate perfectly. I wasn’t afraid. There was no panic, no freezing, no “Oh no, how do I say this?” moment. Everything just flowed.
Of course, talking to real people brings a unique connection that AI can’t fully replace. But what AI can do is prepare you for that moment. It helps you build fluency, confidence, and the habit of expressing your thoughts freely — all in a space where you don’t feel judged or anxious.
So no, you don’t need to talk to native speakers from day one. You can use AI as your practice partner, your mirror, your coach. And when you’re finally ready to step into a real conversation, you’ll discover something incredible: you already know how to do it.
